"Prioritizing The Kingdom of God "

Experiencing God's Will - Week Two

Step Two / Week Two

Make the Things of God A Priority

Day One

“But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.” (Matthew 6:33)

In the original Greek, “seek ye” is a command in the present tense and active voice. First, notice that it is a command not a suggestion. Jesus is commanding us to make His kingdom a priority in our lives. Next, it is in the active voice, which means it is a deliberate choice that we make. Finally, it is present tense, which speaks of ongoing, continuous action. This is something that we must constantly strive for.

As we set out to experience the blessedness of God’s will, we must realize that Jesus expects us to make the things of God a priority in our lives, and that we must actively and consistently choose to do so.

Prayer Suggestions

  • Confess the need for greater commitment.

  • Ask God to reveal to you any areas in your life where He does not have first place.

  • Ask God to help you place His Kingdom & Righteousness first.

Day Two

“But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.” (Matthew 6:33)

Here Christ promises that if we will make the things of God priority in our lives, then He will take care of providing our basic needs. This helps us to focus more of our energy upon God, and less upon the cares of this world.

As we set out to experience the blessedness of God’s will, we must trust that if we prioritize God in all we do then He will bless us and supply our needs.

Prayer Suggestions

  • Confess the need for greater commitment.

  • Ask God to reveal to you any areas in your life where He does not have first place.

  • Ask God to help you place His Kingdom & Righteousness first.
  • Ask God to strengthen your faith that you may focus more upon His kingdom and less upon the cares of this life.

Day Three

“For even hereunto were ye called: because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that ye should follow his steps:” (1 Peter 2:21)

Here we see that we have been called to follow our Lord Jesus Christ. We know that He set the supreme example of prioritizing the kingdom of God. The old question “What would Jesus do?” is still a great approach to every choice we make.

As we set out to experience the blessedness of God’s will, let’s do our best to heed the call to follow in the steps of Jesus and make the same choices that He would make as we are confronted with daily pressures, choices and decisions.

Prayer Suggestions

  • Confess the need for greater commitment.

  • Ask God to reveal to you any areas in your life where He does not have first place.

  • Ask God to help you place His Kingdom & Righteousness first.
  • Ask God to make His presence real to you throughout the day and to help you make right choices.

Day Four

“Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour and power: for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created.” (Revelation 4:11)

Here we find words of the redeemed in heaven, constantly declaring that Jesus is the Worthy One. He created us, He sustains us, and He redeemed us. The simple fact is that He, above all others, deserves the position of priority in our lives.

As we set out to experience the blessedness of God’s will, let us focus on giving God first place in our lives. We should do this because He deserves it, and out of a heart of gratitude.

Prayer Suggestions

  • Continue to ask God to reveal to you any areas in your life where He does not have first place.

  • Ask God to help you place His Kingdom & Righteousness first.

  • Continue to ask God to strengthen your faith that you may focus more upon His kingdom and less upon the cares of this life.

Day Five

page4image13912 page4image14072

“For do I now persuade men, or God? or do I seek to please men? for if I yet pleased men, I should not be the servant of Christ.” (Galatians 1:10)

Here we are reminded that at times pleasing God will conflict with pleasing others. When that choice comes remember that those that choose to please men over God are not the servants of Christ.

As we set out to experience the blessedness of God’s will, let’s determine that we are going to please Him. With every choice, let us ask ourselves, “does this please the Lord?”

______________________________________________________________________________

Day Six

“Furthermore then we beseech you, brethren, and exhort you by the Lord Jesus, that as ye have received of us how ye ought to walk and to please God, so ye would abound more and more.” (1 Thessalonians 4:1)

The word “ought” here speaks of being bound with an eternal binding or obligation. In light of the fact that Christ gave everything for us, we should sense our everlasting obligation to conduct ourselves in a way as to please him in all things.

As we set out to experience the blessedness of God’s will, let’s continue to determine that we are going to please Him. With every choice, let us ask ourselves, “does this please the Lord?”.

Day Seven

“And whatsoever we ask, we receive of him, because we keep his commandments, and do those things that are pleasing in his sight.” (1 John 3:22, AV)

God wants to bless us and answer our prayers. Here we see that when we keep God’s commandments and seek to please Him first, then we position ourselves to receive those blessings and have our prayers answered.

As we set out to experience the blessedness of God’s will, we must remind ourselves that the life that gives God first place, is a blessed life. We can face life and its difficulties with a holy boldness, knowing that we are walking with the Lord, and that He is watching over us.
